Rug Care Guide
Introduction
Every Ibaba rug is handmade in Morocco using time-honored techniques and natural materials. Small variations in texture, weave and color are part of its character and make each piece unique. With simple, thoughtful care, your rug can be enjoyed for many years and become even more beautiful with time.
When Your Rug Arrives
Your rug has been carefully folded for its journey. Once unpacked, it may show temporary creases or appear slightly compressed.Lay it flat in its intended space and allow it a few days to settle naturally. Gentle vacuuming can help restore the wool and texture. Any folds or creases should gradually disappear with use.
Rug Placement
To help your rug wear evenly, rotate it every few months, particularly in high-traffic areas or rooms exposed to direct sunlight. We recommend using a quality rug pad underneath. It helps keep the rug securely in place, provides additional cushioning and protects both the rug and your flooring.
Shedding
Some shedding is completely natural with handmade wool rugs, particularly when they are new.During the first few weeks, gently vacuum your rug regularly using suction only. Avoid rotating brushes or aggressive vacuum settings, which can pull at the fibers.Shedding will naturally decrease over time.
Spills & Spot Cleaning
For spills, act quickly. Gently blot the area with a clean, absorbent cloth to remove as much liquid as possible.Avoid rubbing, as this can push the stain deeper into the fibers. For light marks, use a small amount of mild soap diluted in cold water and gently blot the affected area.Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals and strong household cleaning products. For difficult stains, we recommend consulting a professional rug cleaner.
Deep Cleaning
For a thorough clean, we recommend professional cleaning by a specialist experienced with handmade or wool rugs.Avoid machine washing, steam cleaning or soaking your rug at home, as excessive moisture and heat can affect natural wool fibers, colors and the rug's structure.Depending on use, professional cleaning every few years is generally sufficient
Care by Rug Type

Boujaad Rugs

Long-Term Storage
Before storing your rug, make sure it is completely clean and dry.Roll the rug rather than folding it to avoid permanent creases. Wrap it in a breathable cotton sheet or fabric cover and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.Avoid airtight plastic wrapping for extended periods, as natural fibers benefit from ventilation.
